Should you become personal friends with leadership?

Tough question, right? In a culture where we are supposed to have a firm line between our professional persona and who we are on a personal level, do we lean in and trust someone who holds our career and the financial key to our future? Do we share with them our personal life and become "friends"?

I've lived the "I wouldn't trust them if I could pick them up and toss them", to "I will only work for this one person because I trust them".

Sadly, both ended with me taking my own path without support or advocacy. I didn't get any more out of trusting than I did walking the "no trust" line.

Perhaps that old saying- "it's just business" rings true. But, are we missing an opportunity to grow as people if we merge the two? Professional with personal?

I am not sure there is a right answer- but I am curious!

Kids don’t owe you anything

You know how I turn to writing when I need to get things off my chest, and today’s one of those days. I’m feeling pretty angry right now....
